Rockstar Review and Giveaway: Fields & Lane Gloves

A few weeks ago I was contacted about my interest in reviewing a pair of Forester Men’s Gloves by Fields & Lane. As I am always looking for gloves with the right combination of comfort and durability, I agreed with the understanding that I would give a completely honest and forthcoming review regardless of my experience with the product.

When the gloves got here I was pretty impressed by the look and feel, but most of all it was the fit that got my attention first. Still, everyone knows I’m not a typical gardener and as such I had no intention of giving these gloves an easy ride.  I started my review the day my gloves arrived by carrying them along to the farm where I spent time with my horse.

This may not be interesting to everyone, but my Fields & Lane gloves worked miracles as a horse groomer.  Seriously, the hair just fell away and that was a really cool side effect, but that’s not what I got these babies for, and there was work to be done.

I spent the better part of an hour collecting composted horse manure for the garden beds. No, I didn’t use my hands to pick it all up, but you can’t see the quality of the product from the end of a shovel, so I dug right in.  Incidentally, the lining of the gloves felt really good against my hands while I was filling the wheelbarrow with poop.

Over the course of the next few days, I used the gloves while trimming brush, sawing trees and clearing debris as well as gardening and playing in the mud. While I don’t generally play in the mud, I had to test the claim that these leather gloves were washable and there’s no sense in washing clean gloves.

NOTE: The rough teeth of my hand saw did not rip through the leather when it accidentally grazed my hand. Without the gloves I would have been bleeding.

In the end I have to say that I am as impressed by the durability of my Fields & Lane gloves as I was with the appearance and fit. They are water resistant, they hold up to rugged use and they wash well.  It helps that the leather is 100% American and that they are made in a fair trade factory.
