Rockstar Review and Giveaway: Fields & Lane Gloves

A few weeks ago I was contacted about my interest in reviewing a pair of Forester Men’s Gloves by Fields & Lane. As I am always looking for gloves with the right combination of comfort and durability, I agreed with the understanding that I would give a completely honest and forthcoming review regardless of my experience with the product.

When the gloves got here I was pretty impressed by the look and feel, but most of all it was the fit that got my attention first. Still, everyone knows I’m not a typical gardener and as such I had no intention of giving these gloves an easy ride.  I started my review the day my gloves arrived by carrying them along to the farm where I spent time with my horse.

This may not be interesting to everyone, but my Fields & Lane gloves worked miracles as a horse groomer.  Seriously, the hair just fell away and that was a really cool side effect, but that’s not what I got these babies for, and there was work to be done.

My Earth Garden: Fields & Lane Gloves

I spent the better part of an hour collecting composted horse manure for the garden beds. No, I didn’t use my hands to pick it all up, but you can’t see the quality of the product from the end of a shovel, so I dug right in.  Incidentally, the lining of the gloves felt really good against my hands while I was filling the wheelbarrow with poop.

My Earth Garden: Fields & Lane Gloves

Over the course of the next few days, I used the gloves while trimming brush, sawing trees and clearing debris as well as gardening and playing in the mud. While I don’t generally play in the mud, I had to test the claim that these leather gloves were washable and there’s no sense in washing clean gloves.

NOTE: The rough teeth of my hand saw did not rip through the leather when it accidentally grazed my hand. Without the gloves I would have been bleeding.

In the end I have to say that I am as impressed by the durability of my Fields & Lane gloves as I was with the appearance and fit. They are water resistant, they hold up to rugged use and they wash well.  It helps that the leather is 100% American and that they are made in a fair trade factory.

Michael’s Rating: 4 1/2 out of 5

They sure would look better than the white ones I have that have little pretty flowers all over them, or the winter garden gloves I have that have about 5 hides of rabbit fur or something lining them. Washable feature is a nice touch, too!

I have yet to find a glove that keeps me crying when trimming my Bougainvillea! If your hand saw didn’t poke you, then these may be the magic gloves I’ve been looking for! I’d be thrilled to win the drawing, thank you for the opportunity! I have “liked” Fields & Lane on FB.
(I am not currently a monkey, nor plan on becoming one in the near future.)

I would love to try these out, after reading the review. I can’t find a pair that fit my hands right and that are easy to work with. Really like the fact that they are AMERICAN MADE!!

My mother andI often do yardwork together, so it’s a nice surprise you’re giving away TWO pairs! Finally, my hands won’t be blistered every weekend.

I’m a massage therapist. I need good gloves to keep my hands soft and clean. Hate spending good money on gloves only to find they suck. Reviews help.

Sounds like a great review Michael. I really need to get some real gloves dirty! I have been in the gardening business for years and have not been able to find a decent pair of gloves as of yet! Now that I am not working for health reasons I need all the protection I can get from any form of bacteria. It took one year just for the calluses from years of hard work to go away. I plan on keeping my hands free of dirt and uncallused. These gloves have my name on them…..I just know it! Thank you for this opportunity to win such a great product.

Having gone through my share of sub-standard gloves, it’d be great to give these a try!

I am in HUGE need for a new pair of gloves! AND I have a ton of work to do in the yard from putting in a bunch of new raised garden beds, to building a new chicken coop to accommodate for the new flock of baby chicks I ordered. Those gloves sound perfect!

Holmes March 17, 2012 at 6:56 pm

Would love to try them especially if they come with horse poop for my garden. :))

Phyllis March 17, 2012 at 7:52 pm

These would come in handy this season for my fence clearing project. I have lots of old rusty fence to clear out.

I JUST started my first garden this year. Well, actually, I started seeds but have a garden mentor to help me plan my garden! I’m so excited. I’ve always had a black thumb but I’m determined to learn this and be a success. I never knew gloves were a necessity but today, when I replanted my aloe vera plant (which I’ve never done that either before), my hands were filthy! These gloves would have been nice and even nicer to use in the garden. Thanks!

Pamela March 18, 2012 at 6:14 am

These would be great for my new patch of dirt when I move this summer!

Debi Wagner March 18, 2012 at 11:52 am

Yes, please need to protect these hard working hands

Diana March 18, 2012 at 3:09 pm

The gloves Look so high quality and durable, I would love to see them in person! I garden constantly both at home and at the nursery where I work part time. At work we wear the knit, rubber finger dipped kind.

To have a pair of real leather gloves would be a dream come true. I live just to the South of you in Dallas, and I have not seen these gloves in stores. Please invite me to Carlton :-) If just to come into a room full of leather, to smell the leather and touch a pair of real well made gloves. I would Love to visit and maybe get a pair to show off to all my nursery co-worker Friends!
