Seed Starting, Take 2
A minor catastrophe last night when I knocked over the window shelf that was playing nursery to all of our seedlings. Only three of the seedlings survived the carnage unscathed: sweet basil, common sage and my beloved mortgage lifter tomato.
What that means is that I am now two weeks behind schedule in getting seeds growing, so this morning was dedicated to seed starting once again.
Rather than use the tiny terrariums when I had such a big number of seeds to start, I lined a large, shallow industrial baking pan with newspaper and filled it with seed starting medium.
The chart to the left shows how I divided the pan into sections and what was planted in them.
This is far from all that will be planted here this season but it is a hell of a start. Because of the shallowness of the pan I chose to use I will have to pot up the tiny seedlings much earlier than is normally recommended so unless you are comfortable with handling tiny, delicate plants I don’t recommend following in my footsteps in this case.
And since it is Valentine’s Day, here’s an ironically appropriate little tune for you.
