Sunday Morning Musings

As I sit here over my second cup of coffee, the sun is just coming up at my new home.

It has been quite an adjustment living in a strange, new place and having left behind all of my carefully cultivated vegetable plants on the other side of town but all things happen for a reason and this move though abrupt, was the right thing to do.

A trip to the nursery a few weeks ago yielded more than I bargained for, showing me that good things can happen even when negativity abounds.  We were there looking for flowers and a chance discussion with one of the nursery workers had her leading me to a small cart loaded with unwanted vegetable plants of all varieties.  They were all in need of TLC and since the new MEG HQ does not have much room to plant such things I nearly passed them up entirely (she was offering them to me for free).

Then I saw two small plastic pots with a familiar name sticking out of them.

Mortgage Lifter

For those who may not know, Radiator Charlie’s Mortgage Lifter was one of the heirloom tomatoes I started early this year from seed and I had two of them prior to my move.  Of all of the heirloom tomato plants I was growing this year those were the two that I missed the most.

It was meant to be and I would just have to find a place for them.  And find a place, I did.

DSCF3647 As of this morning those two tomato plants are growing like wildfire - quite a feat seeing as neither of them had a healthy leaf left when I rescued them from certain doom.  One has two blooms already (they are still quite small) and the other has four.

There is no guarantee that these two plants will produce anything at all, but that is a chance I am more than willing to take.  After I wrote about the Mortgage Lifter earlier in the year over at Tomato Casual I fell in love with the plant and longed to taste one.  Perhaps late this season I will get that chance after all.
